Dr. Stephen Vargo is a board-certified general surgeon, specializing in laparoscopic and general surgeries in the Las Vegas valley. Focused on shorter recovery time, decreased pain and minimally invasive procedures, Dr. Vargo uses the latest surgical techniques, such as da Vinci® ® Surgical Systems, to ensure the best possible patient experience.
Originally from Plain City, Ohio, he completed his undergraduate education at The Ohio State University, graduating Cum Laude. For his Doctor of Medicine degree, he returned to The Ohio State University, receiving the Navy Health Professions Scholarship.
After graduation, Dr. Vargo began his medical career in The United States Navy. As a Flight Surgeon, he served in Pensacola, North Carolina and San Diego with Marine Corps squadrons, as well as in both Pakistan and Afghanistan just after 9/11. He completed his general surgery residency in San Diego, deployed to Kuwait as a surgeon and then finished out his military career in Virginia, preparing surgical teams for operations overseas.
Dr. Vargo arrived in Las Vegas in October 2009 to begin his civilian career. Since then, he has developed a reputation for his friendly bedside manner and focus on positive outcomes and quality patient care.

Dr. Vargo serves as Chief of Surgery at North Vista Hospital and a faculty member to residents at MountainView Hospital. He also enjoys participating in ringside medical care for combat sports such as boxing, mixed martial arts and Thai kickboxing in the Las Vegas area.
Outside of the office, his interests include live music, arts and entertainment, traveling and spending time with his family.
